Due to the large number of queries received by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) regarding the use of  CX-3 aviation calculators in SACAA examinations, an Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) was released.

CX-2 and CX-3 calculators will not be permitted for the following examinations:

• All PPL subjects
• Night Rating
• Restricted Radio Telephony and
• Grade 3 Instructor examinations

The aviation calculators will however be permitted for the following examinations:

• All CPL subjects
• All ATPL subjects
• Instrument Rating (Operational Procedures)
• General Radio Telephony and
• Flight Instructor (Turbine Endorsement)
