JP holds the position of Head of Operations for Starlite Aviation Training Academy.

Born and raised in Bethlehem, Free State, South Africa, JP went on to enlist in the South African Airforce in 1999.  He qualified on the Pilatus PC7 mkII as a pilot in 2001 and as an instructor in 2002.   In 2006, he obtained an A-Category Instructor Rating. In 2007 he converted to flying helicopters and spent the rest of his Air Force career flying the Oryx (AS32) helicopter.

JP held the position of Training Officer at 22 Squadron for three years, was promoted to Oryx Flight Commander in 2012 and qualified as an Oryx Operational Commander in December 2012. He completed operational flying tours to the DRC, in support of the UN peacekeeping mission and he has experience in sea and mountain rescue, firefighting as well as maritime/offshore and NVG.

JP joined Starlite Aviation Training Academy in January 2015 as CGI, overseeing all ground school training. He was promoted to Chief Instructor in July 2015 overseeing all ground school, and both helicopter and aeroplane flight training. He was promoted to Head of Operations in February 2021.

As Head of Operations, JP is responsible for the operational management of the Training Academy campuses in Durban and Mossel Bay. He has oversight of the AMO that services the Training Academy’s fleet of aircraft.

JP holds a helicopter Airline Transport Pilot License, an Instructor rating, Instrument rating, Sling/Winch rating, and various aircraft Type ratings, including the AS32 and AS65. In addition, he holds an Aeroplane Commercial Pilot License, an Instructor rating, Instrument rating and Type ratings on various training aircraft.
