Catherine (Kate) Odendaal


Kate holds the position of Director for Global Training and Business Development, responsible for business development for Starlite Aviation Training Academy, procuring, securing and managing pilot training contracts globally.

Born in the United Kingdom and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Kate qualified as a medical microbiologist and worked at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town until 1991.  She then qualified as an architectural designer and owned a design and project management company until 2000.

In 2000, Kate completed her Fixed Wing PPL and 2002, she obtained her Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence at Starlite. Between 2003 and 2006, she held the position of Helicopter Instructor and Training School Manager for NAC Helicopters Unlimited Durban, South Africa and was as appointed Senior Commander on HEMS helicopter contracts for Red Cross Air Mercy Services. She is rated on 11 helicopter types, including the Puma AS330 and has in excess 4500 flying hours.

In January 2008, Kate accepted the position of Chief Flying Instructor at Starlite Aviation Training Academy Durban, South Africa and opened the Mossel Bay campus in 2013.

Kate has served on the Board of Advisors of Southern African Institution for Women in Aviation and won South Africa’s Most Influential Woman in Business and Government award in the category, Aviation.
